Features
Osprey-VLE comes with a wide range of features, including:
The Learning Line
Let’s bridge knowledge gaps! As our learners progress through activities they will generate statements on the Learning Line: this is what we call Open & Social learning.
When a user performs an action, a record is generated and logged on the Learning Line. The Learning Line allows a user to know exactly what they have done within a course, to comment on each statement or flag up a statement/page that they wish to come back to in the future and to share statements with moderators.
We like to think of the Learning Line as your own digital wallet. Allowing you to keep important matters regarding your learning in your pocket
Progress reporting
Learners have a number of options to help them monitor their progress. As they progress through their activity they will generate statements. These could be from many different sources. The history of statements is available until the beginning of time. To help make sense of these statements, reporting tools are available on the sidebar. A summary of activities completed in the current month is displayed, together with a percentage-driven meter showing progress on the activity.
Moderators can access progress reports for learners as dashboard views for quick at-a-glance overviews and as list views for page level granularity.
We display a range of dashboard style reports to users and moderators which are generated on the fly. Moderators also have the option of generating bespoke reports based on a number of filter options. These reports are downloadable to .csv
Dashboards and reports are designed to offer support and encouragement. Available courses are highlighted and progress meters are clear.
Badges
Earn as you learn, customisable badges, are assigned when certain landmarks are reached for an activity. For example, read through most, or all of a course; pass a test; watch a video or complete a game.
There is evidence to support the benefits of gamification and an earn-as-you-learn approach to online study, indeed, reward badges can be linked to improved retention and engagement rates. Positive Intermittent Reinforcement (PIR) is a term used in behavioural psychology to describe a situation in which results become associated with actions: the rewarding of a person for completing a task by issuing them with a badge online can become a positive driver for the person to continue their studies. Coracle's badges are customisable and are easily combined to form an award.

Individual Learning Plan (ILP)
Setting goals is important. Definable aims and ambitions can become objectives towards which efforts can be directed.
There is a difference between targets for a school and targets for an individual; there is a difference between targets for a company and targets for its employees and there is a difference between targets for an industry and targets for its participants.
When it comes to targets for an individual, we start by recognising who the individual is 'competing' against. From a learning point of view the answer is themselves, because personal achievement is not a 'zero sum game'. Providing a framework for an individual to design targets that are aimed to boost confidence leads to better grades and achievements.
Central to motivation for adult learners is recognition. This is often achieved by way of a certificate. Technology can be used to deliver a myriad of certification options based on simple combinations of actions or complex fusions of online and offline achievements.
The ILP framework on the Learning Line allows a user to create their unique roadmap, to identify where they are on their journey and to collaborate as required to move towards achieving their targets.
Skills Gap Analysis
Welcome to the Skills Radar. This software generates skills gap analysis based on self-assessment attitudes and aptitudes tests. The results provide an important element of the users ILP. The Skills Radar carries out two tests: - An attitude test: this discovers the level the user believes their knowledge level to be - An aptitude test: this confirms the users knowledge Once both tests are complete the Skills Radar makes comparisons of the two and relays the results back to the user and the administrator. This report illustrates skills-gaps as well as highlighting areas where a user may be stronger than they believed. The results of the analysis provide practical advice as to which courses the user might benefit from and their ILP is underway.
